The Vickers-Armstrongs Wellington, affectionately known as the ‘Wimpey’, was the most successful of all the RAF’s pre-war bomber designs. Sturdy and reliable, it formed the backbone of RAF Bomber Command during the first few years of World War Two and went on to see service in all theatres.
