After concluding the Battle of the Marianas, Bernard Baéza invites us to discover the Battle of the Coral Sea in two issues. This relatively little-known episode of the Pacific War, which took place in early May 1942, is nevertheless of great importance. It should be remembered that at this point in the war, the Japanese advance was only slowed by their indecision as to which direction to take. All of Southeast Asia, still free, trembled at the thought of seeing Japanese ships appear near its coasts, especially the Australians.

This is without taking into account the American aircraft carriers, which, due to the absence of battleships, constitute the spearhead of the US Navy.

The author thus takes us, with great detail (as usual), to this sector of the Solomon Islands, New Guinea, and Australia, a large area that would become the starting point of the American counteroffensive some time later. Before that, the Battle of the Coral Sea, even though the US Navy lost one of its precious aircraft carriers, deprived the Imperial Navy of two of its most modern aircraft carriers for the great battle to come, that of Midway.
